Downtown Tacoma’s Graffiti GaragesWhen you take art out of the city, you are taking character away from the city. Art in the streets creates a vibe, and I’m not talking about that pretentious bullshit, I’m talking about graffiti. Three years ago the city decided to shut down the garages in downtown Tacoma, and I felt that it put an end to an era that I really loved. It also made that certain downtown block on Broadway feel empty, plain, and soulless. Fast forward to November 2008 when my good friend Eddie Ca$h stepped up to take these garages back. After a year long uphill battle with the city, the garages were finally reopened to graffiti artists this past Sunday. Shout outs to Eddie Ca$h, Ariel Payopay, Auras, Kurs, Clone, Niles, Charms, Jiant, Noble, legendary Role, Esp, and everybody that came out.
